The Piqua Chapter was organized on Flag Day, June 14, 1896 at Piqua with Augusta Isham Thomas Hicks as the organizing regent. Mrs. Hicks was the great-grandmother of two of our present members. The Lewis Boyer Chapter was organized July 7, 1927 at Sidney. Many of the members that organized the Lewis Boyer Chapter were Piqua members living in Shelby County.

Piqua-Lewis Boyer Chapter was formed in December 7, 1989 when the Piqua Chapter and the Lewis Boyer Chapter merged. The merger ceremony held in February 1990 was the first in the history of the DAR.

Our chapter sponsors the Fort Pickawillany Society Children of the American Revolution which has 37 members. The children range in age from 18 months through 20 years old. Anyone from birth to age 21 can be a member of the C.A.R. if they can prove their lineage to an ancestor who gave aid to the cause of the American Revolution.

The Chapter is involved in many aspects of education. We sponsor the American History Essay Contest (grades 5 to 8), Christopher Columbus Contest (grades 9 to 12), Outstanding American History Teacher, DAR Good Citizen Award and the Dorothy Walker Beach Scholarship. We hold an Awards Tea each February in Piqua to present these awards. We also present DAR awards at schools for JROTC.

Members of our chapter are active throughout the community, taking part in activities such as indexing church records, tutoring, Mission work camps, supply school bags & health kits, saving soup labels & box tops for education, cutting quilt pieces for a quilt to be auctioned for missions, work with Bible Schools and Child Evangelism.
