Pickaway Plains Chapter, Circleville, Ohio
Daughters of the American Revolution
Founded November 15, 1926
Red White BLue bar

The Pickaway Plains Chapter of the DAR was organized in 1926 by Mrs. Clark K. Hunsicker. The officers were installed by State Regent, Mrs. Herbert Backus on November 15, 1926. There were 18 charter members present.

The chapter derives its name from the fertile plains, which are found throughout the county. When Pickaway Countys first settlers came through the area, they found no trees. The settlers found the plains covered with grass of such luxuriant growth that it grew taller than a horses back. The black soil, the result of vegetable decomposition through the ages is very rich.

The objective of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is historic preservation, education and patriotism. The motto of "God, Home, and Country".

The chapter is involved in our community in many ways:
Sponsoring students for state and national DAR scholarships.
Contributing to the DAR-supported schools.
Chapter members ride in the Pumpkin Show Parade and help with various committees.
Collect contributions of funds and various comfort items for the veterans.
We honor the county winners of the American History Essay contest and the DAR Good Citizen Contest.
Sponsor annual genealogy workshops and assist parties in locating information about their patriot ancestor.
Host an annual Flag Day Luncheon in June.

Some members index collections of records and/or books at the Pickaway Genealogical Library, as well as for the National DAR Society in Washington, DC.

We welcome prospective members. Please contact our chapter regent or chapter registrar for meeting dates and times. Any woman is eligible for NSDAR membership if she is at least eighteen years old and can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
